Writer Gary Dauberman told Den of Geek in June 2019 that his goal with the new version of Salem’s Lot is to make vampires scary again. He wants to get rid of the sexier, more romanticized undead that have plagued pop culture for much of the past quarter century, thanks to everything from Interview with the Vampire to Twilight and The Vampire Diaries. The film takes place at the end of the 1970s, like the book. Mark’s night light is a Batman night light with the 1989 Batman logo. Correction: the story is set in 1975. There really needs to be an 8-10 hour miniseries. This way the characters could be explored better. We would be more interested in the story and the story. It felt like the Actors did a good job with what they were given. The main actors all did well in conveying the characters’ motivations, considering the shortness of the film. The heroes of the story are good. I loved the teacher and the two principals and the little kid who showed no fear. Was it perfect. No, but. The effects worked well. Although they should have waited for the big reveal for a later story. Other than them. Solid movie. Again. A miniseries should have been made..
